The public schools of Gwinnett County (GCPS) comprise Georgia's largest school system. In April 2008, GCPS received a triple A status from Moody's Investment Services and Standard & Poor. This rating is based on financial bond rating, a rate that measures a public school system's financial outlook.
GCPS is the first system in Georgia to receive the triple A status. Currently, there are only 23 school systems nationwide that hold this rating.
"Earning the highest rating from both agencies is an accomplishment of which our school system and our community can be quite proud," says CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks. "We have achieved something few schools districts in the nation have been able to do. The triple A ratings are strong statements of our Board of Education's record of fiscal accountability, and provide a strong outlook for the school district's financial future."
Gwinnett County Public Schools' 114 schools and other educational facilities will serve an estimated 159,000-plus students in 2008-09.
Attendance zones are determined by geographical boundaries, called clusters. Within each cluster, there are three to six elementary schools, one or two middle schools, and one high school.
